MLK Scholarships Awarded

Spring Assembly Video Available

The Capital Area Council of Churches Spring Assembly was held on Thursday, June 17 at 7 pm. The Zoom meeting honored the four high school seniors who have been awarded Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarships. Each award is for $4,000. A video of the assembly is available.

2021 Awardees

Nyasha Elon Jones

Nyasha Elon Jones, is the youngest daughter of Raphael Jones and Tanya Lewis-Jones. An accomplished vocalist, Nyasha graduated Cum Laude from the Albany Academies on June 14, 2021. As a member of Macedonia Baptist Church, Nyasha has been active in the Music and Arts Ministry. At school, she was a participant in Glee Club, Chamber Singers and the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee. Nyasha has also been a dedicated volunteer with the Albany Police Athletic League. Nyasha has committed to Fordham University on a full academic scholarship.

Jordyn Hunter

Jordyn Hunter will graduate on June 27, 2021 from Albany High School. Jordyn is an active member of Metropolitan New Testament Mission Baptist Church located in Albany, NY.  Metropolitan has been a keen part of her village and has taught her to fully rely on God and remain strong within her faith. Jordyn is a 17-year-old entrepreneur “Pretty Street” which encourages others to “Dress for you…NOT to impress”.  Jordyn will be attending Spelman College in the fall where she will major in computer science.

Madeleine Kelly

Madeleine Kelly is a graduate The Doane Stuart School in Rensselaer New York. Madeleine is a member of Old Chatham Monthly Meeting in Chatham, New York. Madeleine is a social justice warrior and was a member of the Friends Committee on National Legislation reform, the climate crisis and gun reform at Doane Stuart. She enjoys playing soccer and participated in drama productions at her high school and will continue those activities in her college years. Mandeline will be attending Goucher College

Jethro Ronald Lee

Jethro Ronald Lee is graduating from Shaker High School on June 26, 2021. A Roman Catholic, Jethro worships in the St. Pius X Catholic Church. Jethro enjoys playing the viola, violin, and piano, reading books, and watching Studio Ghibli movies. He also has engaged in community service by playing music for local senior living centers and his church, as well as partaking in and helping to lead his school’s Key Club. He plans to attend Northeastern University in the fall in their honors program, majoring in biochemistry.
