CROP Hunger Walks

CROP stands for “Communities Respond to Overcome Poverty”. People of all ages collect pledges and walk in one of the ten CROP Walks that take place in the greater Capital District.

CROP Walk

Our CROP Walkers turned in $111,780 in 2022.

Each year on the first Sunday in May, congregations throughout Albany County join together in an effort to end hunger, one step at a time. Plans for the yearly event start in June of the previous year. Throughout the fall and into early winter, a committee works on plans for the May event. In February and March, congregations are recruited to field a team and begin recruiting walkers. Late in March, a Recruiter’s Rally is held to pass out current year literature and recognize the top teams from the previous year. A highlight is a local celebrity who has agreed to be the Honorary Chairperson for the walk. Walkers solicit donations throughout April by creating a fundraising page linked to the Albany page of the CROP Hunger Walk website and in person solicitations during worship and other means. On the first Sunday in May, walkers congregate at First Lutheran Church in Albany for an Opening Ceremony, turn in money collected and to participate in the walk.
