CROP Walk
YOUR church is responding to the needs of those who are hungry: The CROP Walk
The Capital Area Council of Churches coordinates the Church World Service CROP Walks in the Capital region in the spring of each year. Nearly $200,000 is raised annually by the combined walks in Albany and the surrounding counties. One quarter of the money raised assists local food pantries and soup kitchens. The remainder is used by Church World Service and its partner agencies for relief and development projects in many countries around the world.
Incarceration Prevention
YOUR church is working to change lives
Through the efforts of former Executive Director, Rev. John U. Miller, and other dedicated volunteers, the Council seeks to change the lives of many men and women by providing resources to rebuild lives and avoid the devastating effects of possible incarceration. The Council also provides a prison ministry to inmates at regional facilities.
Emergency Homeless Shelter
YOUR church is responding to those in greatest need
Each year the Council of Churches sponsors an Emergency Homeless Shelter from November through April. The Shelter, housed at First Lutheran Church, provides a dinner, a warm, dry bed, personal care items, clothing, & other basic necessities.
Peace & Justice Forums
YOUR church is taking steps to inform and educate
Monthly “Peace and Justice” Forums are a vital part of the Council’s efforts to help members of the wider community to be informed about topics related to peace and justice. Guest speakers share their insights on current topics and provide information about how we can live out our faith.
Peace and Justice Forums are held the 2nd Tuesday of each month (except June, July & August) from 12: 15 – 1:30 p.m. at First Lutheran Church, 646 State Street, Albany, NY 12203.
The Chaplaincy Program
